When is it too early to read to a child? Umm, never. I say that as both author and mother. My kids might all be in their twenties (pinch me) but I treasure the precious memories of reading to them when they were tiny. What is more heartwarming than cozying up with a book, a blanket, and a baby? And today, I have good news AND a giveaway for you…

“The fire of literacy is created by the emotional sparks between a child, a book, and the person reading.” Mem Fox

Do you have memories of someone reading to you as a child? I recall snuggling on my grandad’s lap with a book and feeling safe, loved, and warmed by the weight of his words. As children, we don’t fully appreciate the gift of someone taking the time and patience to read aloud to us. Especially that favorite bedtime story we just have to hear for the two-hundred-and twenty-fifth time.

But when we are the adult doing the reading, what we can appreciate is a book that is actually enjoyable to read aloud. Well, I have good news: my fellow author-friend, Glenys Nellist, has given us a whole host of readable, adorable Christian books full of truth and hope, helping children discover joy in the world. And for littles who love the tactile experience of holding/ chewing/ gnawing a book of their own, her board books are fabulous!

Earlier this year, I wrote about her sweet Easter “Good News!” book HERE, and I’m thrilled that she now has one especially for Christmas—such a fabulous stocking stuffer. Here’s my review along with my Amazon affiliate links (full disclosure here) which means I get a tiny commission while you pay the regular price:

    GOOD NEWS! IT’S CHRISTMAS!

“A perfect board book for Christmas! Each page begins with “GOOD NEWS!” as the story unfolds of the birth of Jesus. Told in the sweetest rhyme, the truth shines through both words and pictures—the images are absolutely gorgeous! Sure to appeal to young eyes, and easy for reading aloud time and again, this little book will fast become a family favorite for little ones.”

Glenys has also written this delightful new board book for reading all year through—and I’m giving a copy away! Here’s my review:

    GOOD NEWS! GOD MADE ME!

“This bright, joyful board book is so much fun! Ideal for following with actions as the rhyme is read aloud, it asks questions as to why we are the way we are—with arms and legs and feet and eyes. The answer every time is “The good news is that God made me…” With beautifully detailed, colorful images throughout, this book will ignite curious conversations with young readers and confirm they were wonderfully created.”

All you have to do to be entered into the giveaway for Good News! God Made Me!, is leave a comment below. That’s it. I’ll draw a name next weekend. Many thanks to the publisher, Discovery House/ Our Daily Bread Ministries who sponsored this giveaway. Oh, and it’s open to entrants living in the USA, Canada, and the UK.

“Children are made readers on the laps of their parents.” Emilie Buchwald

I hope you’ll make time for reading this festive season, either on your own or with someone special. And if you’re looking for stocking stuffer inspiration, books make the very best Christmas gifts—especially when Jesus is woven into the words!

Next time, I’ll give you my favorite grown-up books I’ve read this year… 🙂

Happy reading,
