ANIMAL PRINT– adore it, detest it, think it’s crass or classy, like it or not- it’s out there!

I recently purchased these little boots (an incredible bargain- of course!), which got me thinking about why we fearlessly don ourselves in faux wild animal:

For a fun look? A bold statement? To add interest? To be at one with nature???

Like every fashion phase, it comes in waves and right now there’s a LOT of the animal kingdom on our clothing, accessories, and even furniture. You can go all out with the wild or add just a hint of print- the options are endless!

The lion might be king of the jungle, but the leopard is certainly king of the runway!

Of course there are alternatives such as zebra, tiger, ocelot, snake… but the leopard is probably my favorite. I had no idea how much animal print was hiding in my closet, but on close inspection, it seems I’m a bit of an addict  admirer:

Animal print fashion has been around FOREVER, and rather than having to fork out $$$ to join the pack, why not rummage around in your mother’s or grandmother’s closet? I’d love the chance to dig into my Nanny’s treasures if we were living on the same continent!

How to wear it:

How much animal print is too much? Hmm, that’s really up to you. If you’re afraid of looking a little too wild, try animalistic accessories or touches on trims…

But if you’re bold and brave- why not go for the zebra coat?

My personal rule is to make sure everything else is subdued and monotone in the presence of a strong animal print, but some love the excuse to express their wild side with abandon and somehow they make it look amazing! If you want some inspiration, go to Pinterest and type in “animal prints” for some great visuals:

I especially appreciate a subtle touch of print– even on the inside, when you’re the only one who knows it’s there!

A little animal is a lot of fun. Why not give it a try?
