I confess, I wasn’t going to do a Fabulous Friday post for today as it’s been a bit of a difficult week- but here I am! Yesterday was a day of sad farewells in the Thomas family, and hearts were heavy no matter how many miles separated us. But two sweet things happened to me, and I simply had to share them with you. They are very different, but both brought a measure of comfort… hopefully they’ll be helpful to someone in some way.

The first thing was a special blessing- many of you know we said goodbye yesterday to a precious man who valued faith and family above all else. When I turned to my Bible devotional today, I was touched- yet not completely surprised- by the message for me from the One who cares and loves and knows. It was the most timely promise:

He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away.” (Revelation 21:4)

So beautiful- I’ve read these words many times before, but they “just happened” to be the very verses in the plan I’m using on this particularly emotional day. Oh sweet promise! Oh loving Heavenly Father with such perfect timing!

The sunset of life is just the beginning…

The second thing is not nearly as deep, but still turned out to be awfully sweet- an accidental cookie recipe. I know it’s trite and fluffy under the circumstances, but sometimes a girl needs chocolate and yesterday it was a necessity! So I slightly messed up a Martha Stewart recipe, but I redeemed myself with the result- pure, chocolatey goodness. I promise you will love them (hence the name!)

**Be warned- this is NOT the cookie to be baked when a hoard of gangly teen boys are about to invade your domain- this only makes 8-10 cookies, and these babies must NOT, I repeat NOT be inhaled- they are to be savored…

CHOCOLATE PROMISE COOKIES

1/2 cup all-purpose flour
1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
1/4 teaspoon baking soda
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 cup chocolate chips (divided in half)
3 ½ tbsp butter
3/4 cup icing sugar
1 large egg
1 teaspoon vanilla extract

-Melt half the chocolate chips with butter in microwave

-Whisk the egg, vanilla and icing sugar in to mixture

-Add flour, cocoa powder, salt, baking soda and mix well

-Add remaining chocolate chips and mix

-Scoop and roll into balls- about 1 ½” in diameter (makes about 8-10 cookies)

-Bake at 320 degrees for 15 minutes, then allow to cool

-ENJOY!

The cookie was sweet, but the message of hope was sweeter still.

Give your loved ones an extra hug today…

Wishing you a Fabulous Friday and a wonderful weekend…
