“The Mighty One, God, the Lord, speaks and summons the earth from the rising of the sun to the place where it sets.” Psalm 50:1
We forget, sometimes, just how powerful and breath-taking God really is.
He offers us love, grace, forgiveness, and a place in His family. Our relationship with Him can be one of closeness, friendship, and intimacy. But still He is the MIGHTY ONE.
Do we take his “mightiness” for granted perhaps? We easily find ourselves mesmerized by an extravagant sunset, yet miss the opportunity to plunge deeper and spend significant time reflecting on the marvel of the miracle and giving glory to its masterful Creator.
When we do actually take time to ponder His magnificence, His complete worthiness of our undivided adoration, worship seems the very least we can do.
Not that God actually needs our praise for His joy and well being! The rest of this Psalm explains how He is completely self-sufficient and powerful, orchestrating time itself. How can we possibly imagine God needing our praise when He has all creation bowing down to Him in wonder?
It’s almost too much for us to comprehend, this Mighty One, this Alpha Omega, who holds the world in the palm of His hand, yet delights in His children, drawing them to His knee, accepting their humble worship.
Not only does He love us, He knows us intimately, as far as numbering the very hairs on our head. How? Because He is the Mighty One. He is God- OUR God.
Utterly mind-blowing, yet stunningly simple.
It takes FAITH to walk this journey, to balance these marvels. Childlike, simple, true.
May we never lose sight of His magnificence.
May we forever be in awe of the Mighty One.
